SOUND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

A unique and evidence-based approach to teaching youth volleyball!

FORMAT:  Research tells us that younger athletes should be playing in a modified/smaller space to increase skill development.  It makes sense right?  Soccer, lacrosse, basketball and other sports shorten their playing areas and/or alter their equipment (lower hoops or smaller goals) in this age group…so Sound VBC is implementing this widely used, developmentally appropriate principal to volleyball.  We believe that our unique model of a smaller court, with four players, using a lighter ball, on a lower net will provide an excellent environment and competitive experience for our youth players.  We piloted this format in one of our youth clinics last year with great success!  Have questions about this format and why we feel like it is the best method?  We are happy to answer your questions.  Email Josh at:  josh@soundvbc.com .  Remember, we are the only club in the area whose staff is certified by the Positive Coaching Alliance!

ORGANIZATION:  We place an emphasis on learning what it is like to be a member of a team and how each individual can contribute to the success of others while building skill development.  Part of this program will be our very popular “bring a parent/guardian day” where our athletes get a chance to invite a parent/guardian to go through the practice with them.  This is a great step in the development of our players as they take ownership and feel empowered to share their learning experience and process with others close to them.  Enrollment will be capped at 20 players with positions granted on a first-come, first-serve basis.  The Sound Development program is open to players currently in 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th grade.  Athletes in 4th grade and younger can take part in our Volleykids sessions.

CALENDAR:  The program will meet on Sunday evenings (most likely 5-7 PM) from December 2nd through February 24th with no practice on 12/23, 12/30, 2/17.  In addition to our “bring a parent/guardian day” we anticipate holding a playdate (scrimmage with other clubs) so our players can put into practice all the great things they have learned!

FEES:  Cost to attend this session is $300.  Your fee includes a T-shirt, coaching, and facility and equipment costs.
